The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed Punjab to acquire 10.5 marlas of retired Lt Gen Savneet Singh's land in Hoshiarpur, encroached upon in 1972 for a road. The state must pay 6% simple interest from 1972 and Rs 50,000 costs within three months. The court ruled that acquisition cannot be conditional on waiving compensation claims.
