US journalist Evan Gershkovich has revealed he realised he was a "pawn in a greater game" when arrested by Russia's FSB in 2023. He was sentenced to 16 years for espionage but freed after 16 months in a prisoner swap. He believes Moscow fabricated the case to use him as a hostage.
