The collapse of public housing towers in Venezuela's La Guaira state during June's twin earthquakes traces back to a rushed 2010 construction drive, experts and former officials told AP. Buildings were erected on silty, flood-deposited soil near the San Sebastian Fault, and their 10-to-20-floor heights made them vulnerable to resonance. The quakes killed over 6,500 people and left more than 17,000 homeless.
