The execution of Christa Pike, 50, was halted just over an hour before it was due to take place on Wednesday. The Sixth Circuit Appeals Court said it needed more time to consider arguments in her case. Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer. She would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years.
