President Murmu Assents to Gujarat Uniform Civil Code Bill

President Droupadi Murmu has granted assent to the Gujarat Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026, making Gujarat the second state after Uttarakhand to implement a UCC. The law covers marriage, divorce, live-in relationships, maintenance and inheritance. BJP leaders called it the fulfilment of a promise, while Congress criticised the move, citing unemployment and other pressing state issues.
