Algeria confirms sending fighter jets to Niger after coup attempt

Algeria's President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed that Algiers sent fighter jets to Niger in late August to help thwart a coup attempt in Niamey. Renegade soldiers attacked an air base, the state broadcaster and the presidential palace overnight on August 28-29. Niger's military government later accused France of orchestrating the mutiny, which France denied.
