A UK Biobank study of 325,580 participants found that accelerated biological ageing independently predicts chronic liver disease, including MASLD, cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver-related death. Ageing-related plasma proteins improved risk stratification beyond genetic risk alone, with PhenoAgeAccel showing stronger effects on severe outcomes. Researchers say proteomic profiling could identify high-risk individuals before clinical progression.
