Nana Patekar Paused Acting to Join Army in Kargil War

Nana Patekar, who died Thursday at 76, put his acting career on hold during the 1999 Kargil War to join the Indian Army at the front. After training with the Maratha Light Infantry for his 1991 film Prahaar, he sought deployment and spent about 60 days with troops near the Line of Control, visiting Dras, Leh, and Kupwara.
