The GST Council on October 8 recommended amendments to the CGST Act to restrict interception of goods-carrying vehicles in transit. Under the proposal, interception would require specific intelligence and authorization from a Joint Commissioner or above. Inspections could only occur where the supplier or recipient is registered, except in cases of documentation lapses. The measures aim to ease interstate movement of goods and improve business efficiency.
