BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath won the Nandigram Assembly by-election in West Bengal by a record margin of over 1.22 lakh votes, defeating Congress rival Milan Pradhan. Rath, mother of slain BJP worker Chandranath Rath, secured 1,64,427 votes. The bypoll was necessitated after Suvendu Adhikari vacated Nandigram to retain Bhabanipur, consolidating BJP's hold on the politically significant seat.
