Protests against sexual violence took place across more than 40 US states on 8 October, sparked by a lawsuit alleging a former Cornell student was drugged and sexually assaulted by members of the Chi Phi fraternity in October 2024. The lawsuit accuses Cornell University of failing to adequately investigate and discipline those involved. Prosecutors have reopened the case, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed the state attorney general as special prosecutor.
