Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged residents along the Pacific coast to stay indoors as Hurricane Simon, a Category 4 storm with winds of at least 240km/h, churned offshore of Jalisco. The greatest risk of a direct hit lies with Cabo Corrientes. Authorities placed 28 municipalities under the highest cyclone alert, suspended classes and began evacuations.
