Gina Hinojosa Elected Texas' First Latina Governor, Ousting Abbott

Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeated Republican incumbent Greg Abbott on Tuesday, becoming Texas' first Latina governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since Ann Richards in the 1990s. The Austin state legislator, 52, overcame Abbott's $180 million campaign and Elon Musk's spending to win. Abbott, seeking a record fourth term, conceded and pledged to help the transition.
