Democrat Scott Colom leads Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith by fewer than 50 votes in Mississippi's Senate race, with 96% counted and about 50,000 ballots outstanding. A Colom win would make him the first Black US senator elected in Mississippi since 1875. The state has no recount provision, and mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day can arrive up to five days later.
