The Union Cabinet has extended Agniveers' service from four to six years and opened a pathway for all willing recruits to join the regular armed forces. The 75% not selected for regular enrolment after four years will get a two-year extension, after which they can be absorbed subject to fitness and discipline criteria. The first batch completes its tenure this month.
