Earth's tiny new mini-moon to depart in December

Asteroid 2026 QQ8 has been orbiting Earth since April and was confirmed to be a natural object, not space debris. First spotted by Hungarian astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky on August 20, the roughly three-foot rock follows a loopy orbit about 1.5 times farther out than the Moon. It will escape Earth's gravity in December.
