Raman defeats Bass in Los Angeles mayor's race

Democratic socialist Nithya Raman has unseated incumbent Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayor's race, with Bass conceding on social media Thursday. Raman, a city council member and Indian immigrant, entered as a long-shot candidate and ran on change, housing and homelessness. Her win means America's two most populous cities, New York and Los Angeles, will be led by democratic socialists.
