Herzog to pick Israeli government formateur on Sunday

Israel's President Isaac Herzog will announce on Sunday which lawmaker he will task with forming the next government, after two days of consultations with parties in the 120-seat Knesset. Some 67 lawmakers endorsed opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief, while 46 backed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and seven abstained. Herzog cited mutual vetoes between and within blocs despite the apparently clear numbers.
