France protests draw 146,000 as cost-of-living anger grows

About 146,000 people protested across France on Saturday against the rising cost of living, including 46,000 in Paris, the Interior Ministry said, while unions put the nationwide figure at 250,000. Some 70,000 security personnel were deployed, and Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warned authorities were "ready and waiting" for rioters and looters.
