Allergy Drug Shows Anticancer Activity in Lab Studies

A new preclinical study shows that fexofenadine, a common over-the-counter allergy medication, induces cell death in cervical and lung cancer cell lines by disrupting mitochondrial function and promoting oxidative stress. The drug selectively targeted malignant cells over non-tumorigenic cells, suggesting potential for repurposing as an anticancer therapy.
