Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin, 76, resigned on Friday, citing serious health issues including Autonomic Neuropathy. In a letter to Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, he said he was physically and mentally unable to perform his duties. The speaker accepted the resignation and will serve as acting president until a new president is elected within 90 days, per the constitution. Shahabuddin, a former ally of ousted PM Sheikh Hasina, had been in office since April 2023.
