The Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, introducing stricter punishments for paper leaks, including up to 10 years in prison and a Rs 10 crore fine. The minimum jail term for individuals convicted in such cases will increase from three to five years. The move follows nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the bill will be introduced in Parliament next week.
