Jhandu Kumar wins India's first medal at Commonwealth Games

Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won bronze in the men's heavyweight event, opening India's medal tally at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 28-year-old from Bihar scored 130.9 points with lifts of 181kg and 190kg. India narrowly missed further medals as Ashok Malik finished fourth in lightweight para powerlifting and Karthik Budigina placed fourth in the 100m freestyle S13 final. Boxer Jadumani Singh advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.
