India cabinet approves stricter paper leak law

The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a draft bill proposing up to 10 years in jail and a maximum fine of Rs 10 crore for organized paper leaks, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed strict action. The amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 also increase the minimum prison term for individuals from three to five years and mandate fast-track trials within three months. The bill will be introduced in Parliament next week.
