Volker Turk wins second term as UN rights chief

Volker Turk, the UN human rights chief, has been reappointed for a second four-year term after a 144-10 vote with 13 abstentions. The US, Israel, Russia, and North Korea opposed. Turk, a vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza, could become the first to complete two full terms since the post's creation in 1993. Israel and the US accused him of bias and eroding UN credibility.
