Housing crisis forces Yemenis to live on front line in Taiz

A housing crisis in Taiz, Yemen, is forcing families to live near the front line between government and Houthi forces, despite sniper threats. Single mother Um Yousef moved into a cheap front-line home in January 2025; two months later, her 11-year-old son was shot. Taiz recorded 66% of sniper casualties in Yemen last year, with nine children among 21 cases. Over 10,000 homes are damaged, and reconstruction is unaffordable for most residents.
