Kargil lessons enabled Operation Sindoor strikes: Former Army chief

Former Army chief General VP Malik credited the lessons from the 1999 Kargil War for shaping India's military preparedness, enabling Operation Sindoor strikes last year. Speaking ahead of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Malik said shortcomings in intelligence and self-reliance drove reforms, including better surveillance and indigenous hardware. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also warned of persistent security challenges.
