CBDT clarifies crypto tax reporting rules for Indian platforms

The Central Board of Direct Taxes issued guidance on crypto tax reporting for Indian platforms and foreign exchanges. The compliance burden falls on reporting crypto-asset service providers, not individual investors. Reporting for 2026 transactions is due in 2027 under the new CARF framework. Penalties for non-compliance were introduced in February 2026.
