Rajasthan farmers challenge GI tags for Unjha jeera, fennel

Rajasthan’s cumin and fennel farmers are protesting the grant of Geographical Indication (GI) tags for ‘Unjha Jeera’ and ‘Unjha Fennel’ to Gujarat’s Unjha APMC, arguing that Unjha is a marketing center, not a production hub. India’s top jeera producer Rajasthan fears the GI tag will be used to undervalue their crop, while farmers in both states grow these spices. The GI registration covers multiple Gujarat districts but excludes Rajasthan.
