Bombay HC allows Gadkari to sue Meta, Google, X over deepfakes

The Bombay High Court on Monday granted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari permission to file a civil defamation suit against Meta, Google, X (formerly Twitter), and unknown individuals over AI-generated deepfake content. The allegedly defamatory posts falsely linked Gadkari and his family to financial gains from the government's E20 ethanol-blending programme. The court allowed the suit under Clause XII of the Letters Patent, citing jurisdiction as content was accessible in Maharashtra.
