Five years after President Kais Saied suspended parliament, Tunisia has seen no economic improvement while civil liberties have declined sharply, according to a former US ambassador. The country's GDP growth and unemployment remain at 2018 levels, and its debt-to-GDP ratio has risen to over 81%. Security cooperation with the US, however, has succeeded in eliminating terrorist cells.
