About 600,000 male mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria are being released across Washington DC this summer to reduce local mosquito populations. The males do not bite, and the bacteria prevent eggs from hatching. Bee Safe Mosquito Control is the first US business to offer this method, which is gaining popularity amid climate change concerns about mosquito-borne diseases.
