Madras High Court quashes Karur stampede job offer

The Madras High Court struck down the Tamil Nadu government's decision to provide government jobs to relatives of the 41 people killed in the September 2025 stampede at a TVK rally led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The court ruled the appointments violated constitutional guarantees of equality (Articles 14 and 16) and warned against setting a precedent. The government is considering an appeal to the Supreme Court.
