The family and lawyers of jailed Tunisian opposition leader Rached Ghannouchi have been denied access for 11 days since he collapsed in prison. The 85-year-old, who has high blood pressure and breathing difficulties, was hospitalized after losing consciousness during a severe heatwave in a prison without air conditioning. His son says authorities have refused requests to visit him, leaving the family unaware of his condition or location. Ghannouchi has been imprisoned since April 2023 on a life sentence his supporters say is politically motivated. The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called for his release.
