Opposition agrees to debate paper leak bill, ending Lok Sabha impasse

The week-long stalemate in Lok Sabha is set to end after Opposition parties agreed to debate the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill 2026 on Tuesday. Speaker Om Birla brokered the deal following a day of negotiations. The bill proposes up to 10 years imprisonment and Rs 50 lakh fine for paper leaks. The Opposition had been demanding a response from the government on police action against student protesters.
