Ajaya Babu wins silver in thrilling CWG weightlifting duel

India’s Valluri Ajaya Babu won silver in the men’s 79kg weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, lifting a Games-record 149kg snatch and 181kg clean and jerk for a 330kg total. He narrowly lost gold to Malaysia’s Erry Hidayat Muhammad, who set a new Games record of 331kg. England’s Chris Murray took bronze with 325kg. The medal is India’s sixth in weightlifting at these Games.
