India sees record 161 new Rs 100 crore-plus income earners

The Indian government reported 576 individuals with gross income over Rs 100 crore for FY2024-25, with 161 new additions—the highest in four years. Over 60% of tax filers pay no tax due to exemptions, and most super-rich are non-salaried. The government is widening the direct tax base, as direct taxes' share rose to 59% of total collections.
