India is preparing its biggest regulatory overhaul for the healthcare sector, aiming to slash the compliance burden, scrap overlapping licences, and decriminalise non-safety violations. The government plans to release a consultation paper within two months and finalise reforms by year-end, a senior official said. The move seeks to unlock private investment and expand healthcare in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where bed availability is significantly lower than in metros.
