Women in Indian Coast Guard get permanent commission

The defence ministry granted permanent commission for women in the Indian Coast Guard, promoting gender parity in induction and service conditions. The decision, announced by defence minister Rajnath Singh, follows a Supreme Court criticism two years ago. The policy also includes gender-neutral induction and ex gratia for families of personnel missing at sea on duty.
