Ebola outbreak worsens food crisis in eastern Congo, WFP warns

The Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo is worsening food insecurity, with over 2.7 million people facing acute hunger in affected health zones, the World Food Program (WFP) said. Acting Executive Director Carl Skau described it as a 'crisis on top of a crisis' during a visit to Ituri province, where conflict has already driven nearly 10 million into hunger. The outbreak, the fastest on record, has 3,360 confirmed cases and 1,487 deaths since May 15, with no approved vaccines for the strain. Movement restrictions and border closures have disrupted markets and supply routes, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
