Myanmar court sentences nine activists to 37 years for election protest

A Myanmar court sentenced nine activists to up to 37 years in prison for protesting the military-backed December elections. Eight activists, including prominent figure Htet Myat Aung, received 37-year terms; a ninth was sentenced to 27 years. They were convicted under electoral and counterterrorism laws for urging a boycott and calling for release of political prisoners. The activists will not appeal.
