SC rejects ban on Jagannath film, upholds artistic freedom

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to ban the animated film 'Jagannath' on Lord Jagannath, ruling that artists must enjoy creative liberty. The bench stressed the need for tolerance, stating that depictions of deities should not be prevented, otherwise films on the Ramayana and Mahabharata would be affected. The court noted that the film had been cleared by the Censor Board and saw no reason to interfere, rejecting the plea by the Jagannath temple committee.
