Rushdie attacker convicted of terror offenses

Hadi Matar, 28, was convicted in a New York federal court on Wednesday of providing material support to Hezbollah and engaging in transnational terrorism for the 2022 stabbing of author Salman Rushdie. Already serving a 25-year state sentence for attempted murder, Matar now faces life in prison. Prosecutors said he was motivated by a 1989 fatwa and a Hezbollah call to enforce it.
