Thousands evacuated as wildfires rage in Crete

Around 8,000 people were evacuated overnight on the Greek island of Crete as wildfires fanned by strong winds threaten tourist resorts and villages. Two firefighters died Wednesday near Krya Vrysi, and a third died near Gytheio. The blaze in Rethymno, with a front exceeding 15 km, has destroyed homes and farmland.
