Syrian diaspora returns to rebuild homeland

Since the fall of the al-Assad regime in December 2024, about 1.5 million Syrians have returned, including the Tasabehji family from Canada, who opened a climbing gym in Damascus to help youth. Despite optimism, returnees face economic struggles and a $216bn reconstruction cost. Many returnees from Lebanon may move back if conditions improve.
