Eddie Howe leaves Newcastle on eve of Premier League season

Eddie Howe has stepped down as Newcastle United manager, just four weeks before the Premier League season. After five years, he led the club to a League Cup title in 2025 and Champions League qualification, but a disappointing 12th-place finish and 4-1 preseason loss to Bristol City preceded his exit. Matthias Jaissle of Al-Ahli is the leading candidate to replace him.
