Amazon's Zoox gets US nod for driverless robotaxis

Amazon's Zoox unit has received U.S. approval for limited commercial deployment of its steering-wheel-free robotaxis, a first for the autonomous ride industry. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration granted an exemption allowing up to 2,500 vehicles annually for two years, with added reporting requirements. Zoox can charge fees for rides in Las Vegas and San Francisco, subject to state and local approvals.
