Parliament passes anti-paper leak bill, sent for President's assent

Parliament has approved the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, with the Rajya Sabha passing it on July 30 after the Lok Sabha cleared it a day earlier. The bill, now awaiting President Droupadi Murmu's assent, introduces stricter penalties including up to 10 years in jail and fines up to ₹50 lakh for paper leaks, and up to ₹10 crore for organized crimes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the legislation, while opposition parties staged a walkout, criticizing it as insufficient to prevent leaks.
