Pakistan Military Rejects UN Report on Afghan Civilian Deaths

Pakistan’s military on Friday dismissed as “baseless” a U.N. report that said cross-border operations killed nearly 500 civilians and wounded over 1,000 in Afghanistan between October and June. Spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry said strikes targeted only militants and defended them as self-defense. UNAMA documented 499 killed and 1,216 wounded; Amnesty International said a March Kabul strike should be investigated as a possible war crime.
