FIFA scraps World Cup investment plan after opposition

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has abandoned plans to sell stakes in its major tournaments, including the World Cups, after fierce opposition from European and other confederations. The proposal, which offered each of FIFA's 211 member associations $40 million for support, faced a revolt led by UEFA and Concacaf, and a senior adviser resigned over it. Infantino now faces pressure ahead of March's presidential election.
